So credit when credit is due, great song....however....went a bit down hill when the song stopped. Great song! "Holding On" - Alex Day Posted via web from inwils's posterous

Meeting new people

Image
I think its always an exciting and definitely nervous time when you have to meet new people. If you think about it we actually meet new people throughout the day almost without thinking about it, but I think how we meet and interact with them relates strongly to how we want them to perceive us. The casual encounter in the street doesn't really need a lot work to actual interact with them. You basically don't care what they thing, you are probably never going to see them again and so the meeting lacks formal introductions and information exchange. I think more thought goes into the meet when you are aware that the meeting might hold some importance, whether this might in the case of a job interview or meeting someone that you have been talking to over the internet for a while and you are going to make that safe first contact. Although everyone will say, you need to be yourself, and act natural, I think that is very difficult to do. The initial meet requires some work. First im...

Would you seriously skydive?

Image
Just been watching TV with the Osborne's as part of their adrenaline junkie series, them all doing daring feats, including Ozzie and Sharon. One of the challenges was to sky dive out of a plane and fall to the ground with the aid of the a parachute. Ofcourse Jack was well up for it and went sailing dow to Earth with extreme grace. Ozzie and Sharon, rather sensibly I might add, excluded themselves from the jump. I must say I would have joined them, keeping my feet firmly on the ground and not even venturing up in the plane. I have often wondered why people do things like Bungee jumping or skydiving. I am a total wuss when it comes to such things. I know quite definitely that my brain is wired up in such a way as I analyse all the possible outcomes rather quickly, and quite naturally come up with the answer that throwing oneself out a plane is not the most sensible thing in the world. I also apply this thinking to anything that has any remote sort of danger, such as rock climbing, ...

Today....events

Another weekend has come to an end, and I thought I would type something while a nice hot bubbly bath runs. Just tried to watch a DVD called Crank maybe 2.... had to stop watching it, after two people having unexplained sex on a race course and then a man having to cut his nipples off as punishment, I decided to turn it off and see what was on tele. As usual, nothing interesting, so I have started to watch Trinity...the jury is still out at the moment. Had a great time shopping with my sister and niece, nice to spend some quality time with them both. Lovely shopping and choosing outfits together, loved it.  Back to work tomorrow, can't believe the weekend goes! We will see what tomorrow brings! Have fun! Posted via email from inwils's posterous

Vampire or Werewolf

Although I know I am a little behind the times I am currently listening to the second book in what I call the Twilight series. As ibwalked home this lunch time Bella was having an internal conflict with her friends. Who should she choose vampire or werewolf? Ofcourse her own view was that she shouldn't have to make that choice and that both parties should be able to coexist together in harmony. However at the momentthe choice has to be made. Two things sprung to mind as I thought about this dilemma. Initially, if I had the choice which would I go with being friends with a vampire or a werewolf. Both bring their own elements of danger. Hoping that the thirst for blood is kept under control or hope that you never get into a big argument. In the e d indecided I would go with the vampire only because I am not keen on dogs and I didn't fancy cleaning up any accidents that might occur from a werewolf since I am pretty sure they are not house trained. It also made be think that the b...

Quote from work

Working with children always is filled with high and low moments. One of the best things is the comments they sometime make which can be totally unprepared for and yet very funny. I am currently teaching year 3/4 and we got talking about space and vacuums. I mentioned to the children that they wouldn't be able to talk in space because there was no air. My talkative child was shocked and I told him that if I put him in a vacuum he wouldn't be able to talk. He looked a bit shocked then replied, quite seriously, that he wouldn't be quiet for long because he would just turn the Hoover on and get some air! All you can really do is smile and continue.  Have fun  Sent from my iPhone Posted via email from inwils's posterous

Well another summer is over

It always amazes me how quickly the summer holidays go. It seems like only yesterday that I was closing my classroom door and heading away from the school thinking, thats the last you will see of me for seven weeks. And now I sit typing this, ready to go back to work tomorrow. I always enjoy my break from work, and I have learnt over the past twenty years that I have been teaching that I gain or achieve something from my time off work. This allows me to look back over the break with a sense of achievement. So I thought I would just quickly survey the fruits of my break.  1) inwils.co.uk is up and running, its not perfect, but I am pleased that I have managed to get this coded and running, lots still to do but its done.  2) Spent time with my family, especially my niece.  3) To sort out my work ethic, using Omni focus and inbox zeroing to help and hopefully maintain a better organisation and work life balance.  4) To get my warlock to 80th on World of Warcraft, nothi...

Sat in Sainsburys

Just sat in sainsburys when and interesting situation occurs. An Asian lady is a accused of queue jumping by an elderly lady who is waiting patiently in the queue. The interesting point comes whne the elderly lady challenges the Asian lady for jumping the queue (which she was) and she gets told that she ia being racist. I was really shocked by her comment since she was in the wrong but it appeared that because she was challenged she immediately accused people of being racist. Have we really come to this point in our evolution that any one that we challenge who is from a minority group can instantly pull and use the "ism" card in their argument. Hopefully it is just a minority that would use this in an argument but still almost makes me concerned a out the state of our society. Perhpaps we have actually come to far in the wrong direction when people start to use their own minority class as an excuse to gain specialist treatment because people are afraid of challenging them be...

I'm getting old!

Well i cna safely say that it is now official. No matter how much I try to fool myself I think it is about time that I am getting old and can't do the things that I used to do. http://www.elikortmedicalequipment.com/Hot%20Water%20Bottle.jpg I am currently sat at my desk, sat on a hot water bottle after successfully managing, to my great relief, to climb in and out of a hot bath. Why you ask yourself am I now sat on a hot water bottle. Well, while playing badminton I have pulled my left hip muscle and can hardly bend! I lunged for a short shot, that my brother played neatly of the net and twang! the muscle went!. Yes yes, before you all cry out I had done a bit of a warm up to start of with (obviously not enough). So there I was at the end of what is normally a highly competitive and sweaty game of badminton, with a strapped forearm due to what I think is tennis elbow, limping along with a pulled buttock muscle! What a sight! I think I have started to realise that I am not y...

First day back!

Really can't believe that I have come to the end of seven weeks off and today I ventured back into the classroom to see where I left it and where I was going to take it. The first thing I was keen to do was to remove the old year group sign on my door. Being the first of September it was time to move on and I was now officially teaching Year 3/4, for my sins or for my next adventure. It always amazes me that when I get back to work, even after a weekend, I always seem to be behind within a few minutes. Although I have a carefully planned to do list for the day, other things immediately descend onto me , usually from a great height. I frantically start to make notes putting them into my inbox, or dealing with them within the two minute deadline, but I soon find that eventhough I have been working all day, the stuff on my do today list has not been touched. I do sometimes thing I should hide somewhere so noone can find me, and then at least I would get something from my own list...
