Will Powers
I know this might seem unusual but I have actually changed my routine tonight...shock horror! Usually I blog then have a bath and then head off to bed to try and sleep, but today I have done it the other way round, so I am currently sat in bed, still warm from a lovely bath, blogging.
Some of you might already know that I often play World of Warcraft, but you might not be aware that in my teenage geeky times I also played Advanced Dungeons and Dragons...and please take note of the word 'Advanced'. It was a really enjoyable game and although I took a lot of stick from my friends about it, I have fond memories of controlling creatures to the early hours of the morning raining havoc onto the characters that my fellow adventurers were playing. Each and every character had a list of attributes that helped to define how good they were at various skills. I can't really remember what they all were at the moment, although I know remember that Charisma was somewhat important to paladins, but I have some recollection that Willpower was in there somewhere, or it might have been in the subsequent game of Shadowrun which I also played.
Willpower is one of those strange attributes that nobody actually wants until you really need it. Unlike strength and agility,
willpower is something that is quite ethereal, almost invisible.
Nowadays it is seen as an attribute to resist temptation, and it is an attribute that I always wish I had more of. For some unknown reason I often decide to improve things or give up things just as I get into bed at the end of the day. Willpower is something that when I get up the next day is very strong, and I can resist almost anything, its only as the day progresses and temptation raises its ugly head that willpower gets put to the test. As I try desperately to maintain my healthy eating regime, or continue to try and blog regularly, my willpower is tested all the time and I do truly wish that it was an attribute that I could invest time in to improve. Sadly I think willpower is only improved by determination and perseverance, so it looks like I will have to continue to struggle on in the future. Perhaps one day I will be granted with willpower 18, and then life might just become a little easier.
Just to finish, I would like to take this moment to say that I DID win on the Euromillions last night! £8.60.....no comment!
Have fun!
