Age and Technology

Just back from playing badminton, and unfortunately found some Quaver crisps at home...to my utter shock I've just eaten three packets!!! bang goes the diet ...well not a diet, more a healthy eating campaign. Anyway I am not going to let this influence me, I am going to start again tomorrow...ooops on a course that has danish pastries...maybe start the day after lol.

When I was driving to work today after being online this morning, looking at my twitter and blog feeds. It was during this that I noticed that when you look at some people's feeds, some people have many followers while others have fewer. Initially I totally understand that this could be associated with the content of the blogs and twitter feeds. Boagworld, for example, produce high quality blogs and feeds for the market of web design. Having initially set up a following this is transferable to other platforms and so the popularity continues to grow.

However I did notice another factor that might have some effect on the person's followers.

While looking at the various followers there appears to be some connection between age and the number of followers. I certainly notice that if you were to look at facebook, the younger generation have more followers than some older people. The same could be said for apps such as twitter and daily booth. Quite probably its very much the case that although some people of my generation are very technically minded, it is the younger generation who are growing up with these social networking tools being part of their everyday life. And, because it is almost essential in that generation to be part of these social networks then the number of followers and the number of people posting within a certain age bracket is higher.

I myself would not look for numbers of followers of views in my blog or twitter feed. Gone is the time that I would rate my myself by the number of followers I have of the number of comments I get left. I would quite happily go for the quality of viewers and I would be much happier with two people that actually read and want to comment rather than eight hundred who say they follow but actually never read anything I put. Perhaps thats something else that is effect by age.

Anyway and comments gratefully received and feel free to follow me on twitter if you want. The apprentice has finished...great row in the boardroom, so I am going to head off for a bath and bed. Don't forget to have fun!
