A meadow full of people
I know I seem to have been blogging about flowers for the past few days, but I had a sudden thought on the way to meeting my bezzy today that sort of like stuck in my head for a while, so I thought it would be a good time to write it down.
Along the side of the path where I walk are a few fields. Some have cows in them, others are just left for meadow. It was a lovely sunny day and the flowers had started to bloom in the meadows (This is beginning to sound like the opening of a children's story!) It was then that I realised how much the meadow was like a community of people. The majority of us are grass.(And I include myself in the grass group). Nothing special, just grass, plenty of us and we grow well and do our jobs and enjoy sitting in the field being grass. Some other people are slightly different, but not much and they grow together in little patches called clover. Very similar to the grass, but slightly different as well. Some of the grass looks a bit different too. Some grow nice and tall, and some remain short, but general it is all grass.
And then, inbetween the grass, there sprouts the daisies and dandelions. They don't look that special, but they are different. They tend to grow differently and have a nice flower with basic colours. There is quite a few of these among the grass, different to the grass, but not that special. These are the people that stand out in the world or the community. People who do something to help others, a friendly next door neighbour, or the charity worker down the local church. The person who puts the old lady's dustbin away, or the person who helps the disabled person to get to the park. These people are the dasisies and dandelions of the meadows.
Finally, just once and a while, there shoots a great flower, an orchid or an iris something that sprouts and grows much higher than the grass, clover and the daisies. A flower that is magnificent in its colours and strength and height. A flower that towers above all the other and out shines them in every degree. This is the person that stands out in the community, This is the person that sacrifices so much to help the community as a whole. A leader. A hero to be idolised. A person who is making the most amount of difference. These people are the orchids in the field
Although it might all seem a bit silly to think about a community as a field of flowers, I think it certainly highlights the different people in the community and maybe even the different people in the world. We can't all be great leaders or popular. We can't all be admired and idolised.
Some of us have to be content to be grass.
But without the grass, then the meadow would certainly look strange, and even grass, has both benefits and a purpose. So I'm going to sit back and enjoy being grass and quite frankly, I am going to be proud to be grass!
Have fun!
